Greg and myself have travelled half way around this huge wonderful country of ours Australia following the Gem, Mineral and Lapidary Shows from January to December each year. On our way around, we have met some fascinating people we can only describe as the salt of the earth type people. Characters from the great Aussie Bush where distance is measured by “as the crow flies” which means in a direct line. It can take a while for those of us who are born and bred here to understand these terms. I hate to think what a tourist would think on hearing these terms.
Further in these posts I will take you through, in no particular order, to meet some of these fantastic and fascinating Aussies. Those who take everything in their stride and live by the rules that life is short and is meant to be lived to the fullest. Those who don’t know what it is to go partying all night, rather to go gem hunting, gold detecting, or sapphire fossicking throughout this country.
I hope you will enjoy meeting these characters as much as I have. A word of warning though…
As there are still some of these characters living, some of them in the same country towns they have lived in all their lives, I have taken the liberty of changing their names, if not the places I have met them. Some people may sound familiar to you, if you have lived in these towns, or shared the same pastime as Greg and myself. It is purely coincidental that they bear any resemblance to the living, or the recently, or past passed. We have met them in all states of Australia, some who have moved interstate, and others….
I invite you to read my posts, comment on them, and share them with your friends and family.
